PHYS204 / COMPLETED ACADEMIC PROJECT
Sensor Measurement & Data Analysis
Turning observations into questions worth checking.
Academic measurement exercises using microcontroller sensors and Excel to explore distance, motion, energy, and experimental uncertainty.
DeVry University coursework01 / THE OBJECTIVE
Sensor Measurement & Data Analysis
A sensor reading is the beginning of an analysis. The coursework required collecting measurements, converting them into useful quantities, and examining the limits of the experiment.
02 / THE WORK
My contribution.
- Documented ultrasonic-distance and time measurements, with the circuit setup and raw serial output.
- Organized free-fall measurements in Excel and used curve fitting to examine motion.
- Compared rotary-encoder distance estimates with ruler measurements.
- Presented tables, graphs, and discussion of measurement variation and possible sources of error.

03 / PROJECT EVIDENCE
What the work produced.
A May 2023 lab presentation containing hardware setups, observations, spreadsheet graphs, and analysis exercises.
Evidence reviewed: PHYS204 project presentation, May 2023. Source pages 9–21 and 29–33.
04 / WHAT I LEARNED
The reasoning behind the result.
A result that differs from the expected value should lead to questions about calibration, assumptions, units, measurement technique, and calculation—not an unsupported claim of precision.
05 / WHAT THIS DEMONSTRATES
Practical skills in context.
Working carefully with observations, calculations, and the limits of a result.
Project deliverable: Sensor observations, Excel tables and graphs, and discussion of uncertainty.
Status & scope
Completed measurement coursework. The case study focuses on documented methods and uncertainty; historical calculations and experiments have not been independently validated or rerun.
Based on the original project presentation, reviewed October 17, 2026. Historical project evidence; not a new execution test.
